Few users fully explore the true capabilities of their iPhones, even though some features can be incredibly useful in various situations. One of the most interesting features is the ability to scan documents with your iPhone without requiring any additional apps.

Using the native Files utility available on all iPhones, you can scan as many documents as you want in high resolution, save them as PDFs, or share them with anyone you like.

How to Scan Documents with iPhone

The process of scanning documents using the Files app is very simple if you follow these steps:

1. Unlock your iPhone, then press and hold the Files app until the contextual menu appears.

2. In the contextual menu, tap the “Scan Documents” option.

3. Point your camera at the document you wish to scan and align it within the scan frame.

The scanning and capturing process will happen automatically (in Auto mode) whenever the camera detects a document that can be scanned. This allows you to quickly scan multiple documents by simply pointing the camera at them.

4. Save the scanned documents to your device’s storage or your iCloud account.

The Save button in the bottom-right corner will indicate the total number of documents to be saved.

In the image below, you can see the exact steps required to scan documents using the Files app on iPhone or iPad.

While scanning documents, you can redo the scan of a document if it was not captured correctly. Additionally, you can choose to scan documents in color, grayscale, black and white, or photo format.
