Even if the performance of the new chips is quite good, there is growing frustration among users, related to the compatibility of applications such as Desktop ChatGPT for Mac Intel.
Most Mac software manufacturers, including Apple, is releasing compatible apps for both the new chips Apple Silicon, as well as for Mac Intel. However, if you bought a computer iMac with Intel processor in late 2020, you will find that some applications or even some top features of the operating system macOS, will not be available. That's as long as your Mac works very well, has top-notch features, and had a not inconsiderable price. After not even 4 years, this iMac with very good performance, it will not be compatible with the technology Apple Intelligence nor with the official app ChatGPT for Mac.
This is my situation as well, being a device user Apple for more than a decade. In December 2020 I bought a iMac Retina 5K, 27-inch with 3.8 GHz 8-Core Intel Core i7 processor, AMD Radeon Pro 5500 XT 8 GB and 16 GB 2667 MHz DDR4 video card, which will not be compatible with Apple Intelligence and many other functions of the operating system macOS Sequoia. Incidentally, according to OpenAI officials, there will be no official Desktop application ChatGPT for Mac Intel.

Fortunately for me, this year I had the opportunity to buy one as well MacBook Pro with M3 Pro chip on which until now all applications run. Besides, I don't need the Desktop app anyway ChatGPT for Mac Intel, but I admit that I have some emotions for what is to come. I'm not sure that for this device MacBook Pro M3 Pro launched in November 2023, I will still get the latest generation features that macOS Sequoia will introduce them after launch MacBook Pro M4, which is expected this fall.
So, it is worth buying one Mac state of the art? The answer is clearly, NO. If until the release of the chips Apple Silicon and until the advent of artificial intelligence, you could buy a computer Mac that you can rely on for 5-7 years, or maybe more, the strategy Apple from recent years shows that it is no longer profitable at all.
If you don't have the official Desktop application ChatGPT for Mac Intel or Apple Intelligence, I am convinced that there are alternative solutions or there are features and applications that do not affect your daily work.
