What's new in the ChatGPT update for macOS?
The new version of the ChatGPT app allows integration with a wider range of third-party apps. Among them is now Apple Notes, Notion and Quip, as well as a number of tools used by developers and professionals. The full list of new compatible apps includes:
- Added IDEs: BBEdit, MatLab, Nova, Script Editor and TextMate;
- Alternate versions of VS Code: VSCode Insiders, VSCodium, Cursor and WindSurf;
- JetBrains IDEs: Android Studio, AppCode, CLion, DataGrip, GoLand, IntelliJ IDEA, PHPStorm, PyCharm, RubyMine, RustRover, and WebStorm;
- Terminal applications: Prompt and Warp;
- Productivity tools: Apple Notes, Notion and Quip.
Before this update of ChatGPT for macOS, content reading functionality was limited to applications such as iTerm 2, Terminal, TextEdit, VS Code, and Xcode from Apple. The update brings increased flexibility, allowing for example code analysis from an Xcode project directly into ChatGPT without the need for manual copying. In addition, the application can simultaneously read information from several applications, an important feature for users who work with various tools.

ChatGPT app for macOS is subject to the privacy standards of Apple. To protect privacy, users can decide which apps and data ChatGPT can access. OpenAI emphasizes that users have full control over how data is stored or processed, similar to the other options available in conversation history.
How you can access the ChatGPT app for macOS
ChatGPT integration with third-party applications is exclusively available to ChatGPT Plus, Pro, Team, Enterprise and Edu subscribers. As of now, there is no information about extending this functionality to users on free plans.
However, for the Notes app and Apple Mail, ChatGPT can be used via Apple Intelligence.
