The design shapes and color of a mobile phone are best brought out by a transparent case. That's if you don't want to leave your phone unprotected from shocks. Unfortunately, over time you will see how the transparent cover yellows, regardless of whether it is a cheap one or from a famous brand that you paid more money for.

As with almost any product, there are quality differences with transparent covers. Some turn yellow in a shorter time than others.

Why clear phone case turns yellow and how to prevent yellowing

Causes of transparent covers turning yellow

In the manufacturing process the covers are not transparent. The material from which they are made has a yellowish color that, by combining with shades of blue, the manufacturers manage to give them a white color - transparent to the plastic or silicone casings.

It is a chemical treatment to which they are exposed to achieve transparency. Over time, there are two main factors that cause the transparent cover to turn yellow: prolonged exposure to UV radiation (in the sun) and contact with sweat on the hands

However, not all phone cases yellow as quickly. The material from which they are made is also very important. For example, a thermoplastic polyurethane shell (TPU), is prone to oxidation. The oxygen in the air may react with the cover materials, resulting in yellowing of the cover.

The same thing happens with phone cases poor quality or poorly manufactured may contain additives or impurities. They are more susceptible to yellowing in a relatively short time.

Transparent covers Apple Clear Case for the iPhone, I can say that they are of exceptional quality. They are made of very good quality polycarbonate, offer flexibility and turn yellow very slowly over time.

Here's what a case looks like Apple Clear Case for iPhone 12 Pro, used for more than 2 years:

There is almost no sign of wear or yellowing on the cover Apple Clear Case, although it has been used extensively.

How to prevent yellowing of the transparent cover

1. Choose a high quality phone case, made of materials specially designed to resist yellowing, such as the polycarbonate. You can see in the picture above how well it has held up over time.

2. Do not expose the phone to ultraviolet light. Keep your phone and case away from direct sunlight or prolonged UV rays.

3. Avoid exposing the phone case to excessive heat or storing it in warm environments.

4. Be careful when using cosmetics or oils around the phone, as they may stain or interact with the cover material.

5. Clean your phone case regularly using soap and water or special solutions cleaning agent that does not destroy its chemical treatment.

Note that even with proper care, some discoloration may occur over time, especially with clear covers made of certain materials.
