Trying to add the website ihowto.tips (self-hosted) in the application WordPress for iOS, I hit an error that many people have overcome. Apparently you say you do not know Dashboard password on the blog, but it's not like that. The problem comes from the impossibility of the application to exchange data with the blog. Specifically, the web server that hosts the WordPress blog / website must allow an XML protocol for remote data transfer / query (RPC).
Sorry, we can't log you in.
Unable to read the WordPress site at that URL.
THE SOLUTION: How-To Fix WordPress iOS App: Sorry, we can't log you in. Unable to read the WordPress site at that URL.
Most likely and in other situations, this error occurs from cause of missing the XML module. This module is imperative for the good functioning of a website that runs on the WordPress platform. Without XML, remote querying of the website through an application is impossible.
Here's how it looks in error.log every attempt to log in to the WordPress application for iOS:
2016/11/08 07:59:17 [error] 13701 # 0: * 1666433 FastCGI sent in stderr: “PHP message: PHP Fatal error: Call to undefined function xml_parser_create () in / srv / www / website / public / wp -includes / class-IXR.php on line 264 ”while reading response header from upstream, client: 78.96.104.15, server: ihowto.tips, request:“ POST /xmlrpc.php HTTP / 1.1 ”, upstream: fastcgi: / /127.0.0.1:9001 ”, host:“ ihowto.tips ”
To solve this problem, we will need to install the XML module on the web server. Of course, full access is required to the server we want to do.
Once logged on to the host server, we run the command line: php -m. In the module list we check if it appears somewhere xml, xmlreader si xmlwriter. In the scenario where this module does not exist, we proceed to its installation, executing the command: yum install php-xml (for CenOS).
The activation of the PHP XML module will be done after restarting the web services of the server. php-fpm si in our case.
Now we can re-add the website URL in the WordPress app for iOS (iPad & iPhone).
In the absence of the XML module, no other application will be able to connect to your website. Windows live Writer (Windows PC app), WordPress for Android, Blogo, MarsEdit, myWPEdit for macOS.
