Update:

Offload Unused Apps is a feature introduced by Apple with iOS 14 and iPadOS 14, to leave more free storage space on iPhone si iPad, by uninstalling applications and games that we do not use frequently. So, to free up storage space on your iPhone, this tutorial will be of great help.

Many of us happen to have the so-called "zombie apps". Applications and games that we install but do not use frequently or never use. These installed applications and games take up storage space on devices.

How the "Offload Unused Apps" option works on iPhone and iPad

When this option is active, when the space on the iPhone or iPad is almost 100% occupied, applications and games that are not used frequently will be deleted. In their place will remain one shortcut on screen or in “App Library” from where we can install them immediately with a simple access.

Very important to mention, is that you will not lose data from the application or the game. The documents and settings associated with the application will be preserved, as well as the saves of a profile from a game. When the iPhone or iPad space is full, only the application files will be deleted, not the personal ones created by the application.

How to activate Offload Unused Apps on iPhone and iPad (Enable)

1. We go to iPhone or iPad in: Settings” → “General” → “iPhone Storage

2. Here all we have to do is click on the option Enable.

Enable Offload Unused Apps

From what can be seen, in my case, I will gain about 700 MB when the space on the iPhone approaches 100%.

How to disable Offload Unused Apps on iPhone and iPad (Disable)

If we do not want the applications to be deleted from the iPhone when the storage space of the iPad or iPhone takes up almost 100%, we can disable the option.

go to “Settings” > “App Store” > uncheck the option.

We can always reactivate this option when we need more storage space on the iPhone or iPad.

I am happy to share my experiences in the field of computers, mobile phones and operating systems, to develop web projects and to bring the most useful tutorials and advice. I like to "play" on the iPhone, MacBook Pro, iPad, AirPort Extreme and on operating systems macOS, iOS, Android and Windows.
